Located on the extreme North of Russia, Wrangel Island represents a nature sanctuary. It receives the highest level of protection from any human activity due to its unique wildlife. Populated by polar bears, seals, lemmings, Arctic foxes, scientists claim that Woolly mammoths survived there until 2500–2000 BC. Its isolated environment was perfect for the mammoth population.
